Spring has Sprung.

It’s finally warming up around here as the days continue to lengthen and the sun moves higher up into the sky. Parts of the garden that live in winter shadow are being kissed by sunlight these days and I am busy preparing our garden for another growing season. We are enjoying our first artichokes, steamed and dressed with lemon and ghee.

The end of day fatigue from these long days of physical exertion preparing beds, weeding, sowing seeds and transplanting is much welcomed. I am especially excited for the plant dye garden which includes madder and indigo along with the Ayurvedic herbs Ashwagandha and Tulsi. I invested in over 40 varieties of new flower, herbal and vegetable seeds this year. It’s a tall order but my goal is overall biodiversity and implementing even more regenerative and sustainable growing practices. It is a continuous and ever evolving dance with nature that brings it’s joys and challenges each season. Sometimes it is a graceful hula where everything is aligned and sometimes it’s a breakdance battle and you’re getting served by Mother Nature. I’m constantly in a learning process and maybe that’s why I keep coming back even when the gophers eat half the garden; they play their little part in the game of life too.

The garden will take most of my energy and attention during this time as usual but this year I will juggle not only the house holding but also the artwork, podcast and continued studies in Ayurveda, yoga and cartomancy. I will of course be sharing all of these experiences here.

Mahalo for taking the time to catch up with me. May the long time sun shine upon you and all the warmth of Spring envelope you. Sat Nam, Aloha Ma.
